Unflinching, high-energy, show biz biopic. Ike Turner, a charmer with the heart of a snake played by Fishburne, is already an established R&B songwriter, musician and record producer when he meets teenager Anna Mae Bullock (Angela Bassett) of Nutbush, Tennessee. Her great big voice wows him and he takes her on tour with his band. They are married and Ike plays Svengali to his gifted but inexperienced songstress wife, who he renames Tina. Ike makes Tina a star. But jealous of her talent and fame, he viciously batters her. The tempestuous couple make love and war, on stage and off. At last, Tina has the confidence and strength to leave her abusive husband. She becomes a superstar in her own right.
