The nightmare continues as ol' stiletto fingers, Freddy Kreuger (Robert Englund), returns to haunt the dreams of innocent suburban children. Nancy (Heather Langenkamp), the only survivor of the first movie in the series, is now grown up and trained as a psychiatrist specializing in dream disorders. Seven children stricken by dreams that Freddy is trying to kill them are gathered in a psychiatric ward where Nancy seeks to help them. One of the kids (Patricia Arquette) has the power to draw others into her dreams. It is within her psyche that, this time out, the war against Freddy is waged. Fishburne plays Max, an administrator in the hospital.
