To back up his maintenance capabilities in Florida, Damm keeps a full set of tools at Avjet at BUR to support frequent West Coast operations.

Aircraft dispatch and scheduling is handled by Executive Director Susan Such at Atlo's head office in California.

Selecting Aircraft

When Travolta buys an aircraft he considers the mission required comfort level, operational factors and dispatch reliability. He's partial to the Gulfstream II – it's been reliable and does the job he needs it to do. With typical sorties from Bangor to LA, Bangor to Paris and LA to Honolulu, the GII handles its tasks well thus avoiding the requirement for a longer-legged newer-generation transport at many times the investment.

Travolta's GII operates out of 4000-ft runways comfortably and cruises between FL390 and FL450 at Mach .75 to Mach .80 burning 3600 lbs of fuel initially and 2400 lbs at long-range cruise. Longest trips to date include a 2700-nm leg from Vancouver to Kona, HI and a 3000-nm stage from Los Angeles to St. Thomas with a 78-kt average tailwind and 3500 pounds of fuel remaining. Lear operations usually involve departures straight to FL430 and a useful range of about 2.5 hours. The Lear has been a good performer on Travolta's flightline – AOG only twice in eight years.
