“I believe in full-throttle professional procedures,” Travolta notes. “We always fly the Gulfstream with three captains, including myself, and on transoceanic flights we'll have a flight engineer and one or two flight attendants. Most commercial airliners don't have the flight deck crew that we have.”

Travolta admires the era of the Pan Am Clippers and the early BOAC international services where style, elegance and professionalism all seemed to come together.

“I like things and designs that commit to a theme. I've tried to keep a level of clarity, elegance and professionalism in this flight department. People respond to it like crazy – they can see that the details have been thought of,” says Travolta, who offers a silver tray service aboard N492JT, complete with flowers, wine lists and a cabin that converts into five berths surrounded by gold-striped curtains – a glamorous recreation of the old Pullman train days.

Thoughts on professional pilots

“I've always enjoyed the idea that I could have been, or still could be, a professional pilot,” says Travolta. “Like acting, it's a great profession that offers so much satisfaction.”

Travolta feels that skills developed in being an aviator will help a person in other aspects of life as well as in acting.
