As George Malley, Travolta is an average mechanic in a small town until one night he wanders outside a bar and is knocked on his back by a brilliant light in the sky. The next morning, he awakens a changed man: a genius with telekinetic powers. He uses them innocuously, improving his mind and his vegetable garden, but that doesn't prevent the townspeople from growing increasingly jealous -- and suspicious. Eventually, this leads to questions by the feds and scientists. As Travolta's character grows increasingly isolated, he turns to his one friend, his mother, to figure out whether his new powers are a blessing or a curse.
